Originally
designed by Russell Curnow in the late 1960's, the Sea King
has been established for over 30 years.
It can
be found in Coves and on beaches throughout Cornwall. The
Sea King was first designed as a Cove boat for the rugged
and sometimes shallow waters found in Cornwall, making it
ideal for getting into difficult and hard to reach places.
Later
on, Curnow modified the boat for sailing which was also very
popular. The mould was then sold on to John Jones in the Lizard
in 1987, where John built several Sea King's for the local
fishermen and anglers. The mould was then left unused for
over 15 years until it was acquired by Daniel Gilbert in 2002.
Most of the original Sea King's are still working boats throughout
Cornwall.
Due to
its size the boat can be launched and retrieved by one man,
however, a popular choice is to fit an enclosed forward locker
to take a small hydraulic power pack if a hauler is needed.
